Psychological ASSESSMENT
Sanctuary Psychology has a special interest and skill in the diagnosis and treatment of Neurodevelopmental disorders including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Intellectual Delay and Learning Disorders. Whilst we provide services to all children, adolescents, adults, and families, we have particular training, history and skill in the diagnosis and treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Autism Spectrum Disorders
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex neuro-developmental disorder commonly diagnosed in early childhood. All children with ASD are unique, although parents often notice that their child has challenges in how they communicate socially and they may have difficulty with changes in routine, a narrow range of interests and repetitive behaviours such as rocking, fixated play, head-banging, and many others.

Attention Deficit / Hyperactive Disorder
A person with ADHD has differences in brain development and brain activity that affect attention, the ability to sit still, and self-control. ADHD can affect a child at school, work, at home, and in relationships. Parents typically notice signs of inattention, difficulty following instructions, hyperactivity and forgetfulness which leads to seeking assessment.

Testing for Intellectual Ability and Cognitive functioning involves several test including a specific IQ test, and a functional assessment. Sanctuary Psychology specifically uses the following IQ assessments as part of this process;
WPPSI (ages 2 years 6 months - 7 years 7 months)
WISC (ages 6 years - 16 years 11 months)
WAIS (ages 16 years - 90 years)
Specific Learning Disorders
(Dyslexia and Dyscalculia)
A specific learning disorder may be defined as problems people encounter in learning that affect achievement. The most common forms of learning difficulties are in reading and spelling, but they may also be found in other areas including spoken language and mathematics.

Assessing for a Specific Learning Disorder involves several key observations, reports and testing. Acurate diagnosis of an SLD includes academic reports, observation of difficulty, and IQ test and the following specific academic achievement test;
